Yello!!! My name is Emmy Kline, but my good friends call me Miss Cakes! You can usually find me doing art shenanigans for my day job as Resident Artist for Jerry's Artarama, so I'm over on their channel a LOT. I work in just about every medium out there, so if you have questions about any particular supply or have a product you've always wanted to try, feel free to send over your questions!
If you happen to find something I haven't used before, I will test and review it for you.... but that's kind of a challenge - I've used just about everything out there! :D

France is on my residency list too ☺️
Have @ Wonderful New Year's!//thanks
Out of all the pantone challenges I have watched, I think I like yours the best. You know your colours and your environment. The cards look amazing! Subscribed. ✅️💗
Aw thank you so much! Unfortunately, I haven't had any time to make my own videos lately, but you can find me over on Jerry's Artarama's Channel all the time! :D
Me🤦🏻♀️ Right now that’s why I came to find out WTH to do. I kept adding more paint but the copper starting looking brown. I’m going to get the hang of this one day!
What brand of paint are you using??? Also, have you tried adding a fluid medium instead of water? I like Golden's Airbrush or their High Flow medium the best.
@@MissCakesArt The expensive kind of paint! LOL.Masters Touch and Liquitex. I only have Hobby Lobby in my rural area. I am using Masters Touch flow medium (clear like water) and Crate Color pouring medium. A big jug that looks like thick milk. I honestly don’t understand if Flotrol is a medium or something that’s is used with a medium. I’ve got my mix pretty much figured out now, however I see my problem as too much paint on the canvas or wood when I pour. I can’t get all of it to run off before it starts messing up what I want to keep. Every technique I have tried it happens. #stressful
did I miss the mention of residency fees?
Oh sorry! I didn't mention them in this video. They have them fully listed on the website for the Chateau! www.chateauorquevaux.com/
Not true!
Very interesting watching you. Great job.
Thanks for sharing your experience, really enjoyed it, I was looking for something like this.💚🙏
Are they accepting artists without a solo show for their art residency?
I believe so! I don't work there, so I couldn't answer for use, but they accept all sorts of artists. :)
SO beauty in this palace.
artist's palace Great love to be
Awesome
Wow, the egg came out really well very 3-D looking
It looks like the residency is a couple grand. Other than working around other artists, what would you say is the benefit?
That's a very important and valid question! Usually for residencies that are fully funded and possibly offer stipends for attending artists, the directors are looking for people that have had positive experiences at residencies already. They want to know you're dedicated to your work, and the way to sort of get into that realm would be to pay for a residency or two. Beyond that, this particular residency is in a stunning landscape that offers inspiration naturally, as well as exposure to French culture! Not to mention, the costs cover your place to stay, food (breakfast and dinner are included and there is always a massive amount of leftovers available for lunch), and drinks on select nights when there are events! Then the final cherry on top (if you needed another) is that you get the directors of this residency as mentors! Beulah even has a night where she gives advice on the business side of the art realm because she owned and ran a successful gallery for years! 🙂
What is your recommendation on what supplies to bring as an oil painter ( i also use acrylic) and what your shipping issues was I’m about to go in July and I’d love to get your opinion of what was most useful approach
Oils were what I used, which was a bit of a pain considering I either had to stop painting early so they'd be dry ooorrrr leave everything behind to be shipped out later. You also cannot fly with any solvents, so you would have to buy it there at the art store (IF it's in stock). I would highly suggest you just use acrylics during your time there to get as much work completed as you can!
Wonderful videos Emmy! This is so helpful to prepare for my residency in October this year - especially with what the weather will be like. Did you have any negative experiences or can you pass on any tips to make sure it is a positive time?
Thanks for the videos. I’m going in Feb of 2024 and appreciated the insight on what to expect (and the grounds tour). Oddly enough I’m from Raleigh as well. Small world. Lastly, did you ever post a week 4 video? I could only find weeks 1-3. Thanks!
for a perfect transfer, paint the medium over the image as well )....and if you use waxed paper on one side... you don't have to scrub at the end, but you will peel off beautifully
It's pink brick
Really enjoying your time in France. Your paintings are so beautiful and fun!
how this makes sense? and original color´s pantone is completely covered...
Not completely. Each original color is visible in every card I painted. Sometimes it was prominent, sometimes it wasn't
Can you do this with images printed on an inkjet printer or do they have to be from laser printer?
Technically, yes you can use an inkjet printer. The only problem is that the inkjet prints tend to blur when you apply the medium!
I am thrilled for you! I am accepted for a month September 2024!
Congratulations!!!! It's going to be an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience!!!
hi, i need all information about that recidency program.
All the links are in the description!
thank you so much
Hey hi great experience, I can feel it from your video... Kindly guide me how to apply this ...i am into drawings
Thank you so much for watching!! It really is such an incredible experience and I highly recommend any artist apply to go! Here is their website with the application link: www.chateauorquevaux.com/
@@MissCakesArt So nice of you Emmy and one important thing your aart is really heart ❤️ touching specially the shoes self portrait..it reminds me of Van Gogh's paintings.
Ohhh my gosh you just made my day!! ❤️🥰😊 Thank you so much!!!
@@MissCakesArt we artists can praise each other, that's all we have... There is a saying that Appreciation is the Soule food for artists. And i also like Van Gogh so much... I'm glad you relate my words. I have done 30 drawings on his life where i travel time to meet him... If u like I'll share it with you 🙂.
I agree!!! And yes! I would love to see your drawings!
how to apply? & which are the requirements .? Thank you ❤
Go to their website and fill out the application!! They accept artists of all types: musicians, writers, visual & performance artists, etc! All the details are on the website though ☺️ www.chateauorquevaux.com/
I hate this trend
Any particular reason why?
Would acrylic paints work just as well as gouache?
Acrylics should be just fine! In the end, the only issue that might happen is the acrylics not fully adhering to the surface. But the acryl gouache does the same thing which is why I could scrape it back off with a toothpick! 😁👍🏼
That landscape was beautiful, it reminded me of the lion king.
❤
Yes! We want to see the mural! ❤
I’m so surprised that this doesn’t have way more views! Love it! ❤
I got accepted as a writer in residence for January 2024! I’m so excited to experience this for myself. Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it’s been such a pleasure seeing it through your eyes! ❤
Ohhh my gosh!! Congratulations and welcome to the Chateau d'Orquevaux family!!! It's going to be such a magical experience for you and I'm so excited for ya! 🤩❤️❤️❤️ Keep in touch and let me know if you have questions!!!
beautiful video interesting house thanks for the walk thru
Very interesting and well done. Warren
Hi Emmy! I've seen all your videos of this challenge and I loved it! You're doing a fantastic job and you inspired me to try that myself. Do you think you get back to the challenge once you are back from the artist residency? Thanks ✨
Hey Shamila!!! Thank you so much for watching 🥰 I hope to see what you do too! But yes! I absolutely will be getting back to the challenge when I come back in November 🙂
Hi Emmy, your RUclips was helpful. I have always used Ampersand Gessobord, which has just a little bit of texture. Is the Da Vinci medium texture like that or rougher? And can you sand it?
Hey Barbara! The Da Vinci Medium panel is similar to the Ampersand Gessoboard, though the texture isn't exactly the same. And yes, you should definitely be able to sand it if you need to!
@@MissCakesArt Thanks very much. I bought one and it works.
beautiful grounds enjoy
Bienvenue en France, Emmy ! 😊
That'll be so easy to pick out of the crowd when you land! Super cute! Sending love from Maryland!
Cute ❤❤
This is great! Where can we get these Pantone cards?
The link to where I got them is in the description! ❤️ Can't wait to see what you make!
Beige is the worst; it goes perfect with those awful Live, Laugh, Love signs. Now I think I may have to do the Pantone postcards for this year's holiday cards.
which paint?
I was using the Turner Acryl Gouache Paint!
Emmy...this was so fun....and, we're going to France! PLEASE try to blog from there for all of feeling way too stuck at home.
Yes please on the mural!!! You are a QUEEN!!!
Love these, and love seeing the process. But about that residency...spill! How long, what will you be doing, etc. etc.
I’m working on these postcards on my channel too! Love how yours turned out! It’s always so fun to see what others decide to create based off of the same colors! Great job!
Love this!!! Lola❤️❤️❤️❤️
